Survey Reveals Growing AI Adoption Among U.S. Christian Ministry Leaders

March 13, 2026 — United States A recent survey of executives from the nation’s 1,000 largest Christian ministries shows that 86% of organizations are either actively using artificial intelligence for key operations or have experimented with it, signaling increased technology integration in faith-based work.

The quarterly survey, conducted by MinistryWatch since October 2022, gathered responses from 99 ministry executives, 94% of whom hold top roles such as CEO, president or executive director. Among the organizations, 27% employ AI for vital functions including fundraising, research and content creation, while 59% have tested it without making it integral to operations. Only 14% reported never or almost never using AI.

Executive Personal Usage

Personal adoption among leaders is also high, with 47% of executives using AI often or every day in their roles, 37% using it occasionally and 15% avoiding it altogether. These figures reflect broader trends in nonprofit AI integration, as noted in a related Bonterra study conducted with Hanover Research.
